In 1975, Storaas undertook fieldwork in Lafon for his Master’s thesis as part of the Savannah Project headed by Gunnar Haaland at the Department of Social Anthropology, University of Bergen. The Savannah Project was supported by the Norwegian Church Aid, which at the time was about to start a major development project in East Equatoria, based in Torit and led by Øystein Stabrun.
